Notes: The most spectacular of the three Auriga Messiers. It is a similar size to M38 but with brighter stars like M36 and more densely packed than either. There must be several hundred stars. The core of the cluster is shaped like an isosceles triangle with the apex pointing E and the short side on the W, aligned N-S. From base to apex is about 10 arcmins. This arrangement is very noticeable. |
